Ghosts at the McConnell Mansion, Moscow, ID

McConnell Mansion, now a museum, was built in 1886 for William J. McConnell (1839–1925) and his family.

The mansion had three private owners after the McConnells lost the house in 1897.

The Adair family bought the house in 1901 and lived there until 1935, after which the Thomas L. Jackson family bought it and lived there until 1941.

The last private owner was Dr. Frederic Church [1885–1966], who bought the house in 1941 and lived there until he passed away in 1966. He bequeathed the mansion to Latah County to be used as a museum, and in 1971 the building was designated as such. The mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

In addition to all the families who lived in the mansion, it also had many renters over the years.

You can take a guided tour of the museum or simply walk around on your own. There is much to see, as the Latah County Museum Society has done a wonderful job adding period-related items to the mansion in addition to some original items that belonged to the families.

I felt the energy change in two areas, first in the hired girl's room and again in Dr. Church's room upstairs.

I got voice responses in the Adair family room, two in Dr. Church's room, the McConnells' bedroom, the formal parlor, and the hired girl's room.

Psychic Medium Jennifer Von Behren immediately picked up the energy of Dr. Church. He is very talkative and confirmed that he was responding to me in his area. He also said that Mrs. McConnell is still there.

There is also a female spirit who was the maid, or a hired girl, for the McConnell family. She has been there a long time, and she doesn't want to leave.

Mrs. McConnell did not like the construction that was done in the mansion. She also was not fond of the renters in the house.

She also said that she hated the '70s. Mrs. McConnell likes to sit in the blue chair in the formal parlor area. She says that she put her heart and soul into the house and is very attached to it.

Dr. Church absolutely loves the house. He says that the families liked game nights. He is very funny and also a bit sarcastic.

Psychic Medium Jennifer Von Behren says that the house's energy is mostly great and that all the ghosts in it have good energy. They like to maintain their daily routines.

Jennifer hears someone speaking French.

Dr. Church tells Jennifer that the reason he gave the house to Latah County was because he didn't want anyone moving into it.

He said that the people in the area were good to him, and that is another reason why he left the house to them.

There is someone in the house who is making Jennifer feel sick. Mrs. Adair had tuberculosis and passed away in 1933. Dr. Church is telling Jennifer that going up the stairs was difficult for Mrs. Adair, so they built a bedroom for her on the main floor and extended the room into the porch. That bedroom is now the museum gift shop.

He also says that Dr. William Adair was a nice man and brought him into the mansion. Dr. Adair passed away in 1933.

Dr. Church said that he had medical students in the house and wanted them to understand how to help people. He would pick people who were more progressively minded and taught them things that were outside the norm of medicine at the time.

They had many good discussions on different new ways to approach things. Dr. Church also liked to learn from his students.

Jennifer also sees a young boy playing in the attic.

One of the female spirits that Jennifer sees looks like Lulu Adair.

A lot of the information has been gathered from Dr. Church's diaries that he kept. They are housed in the Special Collections at the University of Idaho, along with his family photographs.

McConnell Mansion Museum is a must-see when in Moscow, ID.
