Comet Lodge Cemetery, located on Beacon Hill in Seattle, WA, was established in the 1800's as a sacred burial ground for the Duwamish Nation, who were part of the coastal Salish tribes of the Pacific NW .

The land, once 5 acres and now half of that, was sold to the Maple family and the 1st burial was Samuel Maple in 1880.

The cemetery was officially dedicated in 1895 as the Comet Lodge IOOF cemetery, representing the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

In 1908 Comet Lodge 139 divided the land into 2 sections and sold the cemetery parcel to Herbert Switzer Noice, who in turn deeded it to H.R. Corson in 1912.

In 1927, prior to subdivision, the baby grave markers were removed by the Corsons, so that they could sell portions of the "baby land" to the City of Seattle, who knew the sections were grave yard plots ,

The last burial was in 1936.

The King County got ownership of the cemetery in 1930's due to foreclosures and due to neglect, the cemetery fell into despair.

Some of the remains were removed to another place by the family members, but many were left behind.

To make matters worse, in 1987 the City of Seattle bulldozed the burial grounds to make way for single family residences, a dog park and a retail space, destroying headstones and graves were desecrated.

Out of 500 or more graves once at this location, only couple dozen is left. It is not known how many remains are sill there without a headstone, nor the actual location of the remains, so some headstones are not where the actual remains are.

When you walk into this cemetery, the energy feels heavy and not just in some areas, but in the whole area.

Psychic Medium Jane Stewart of the Ghost411.net podcast felt the same heaviness reading the energy of the grounds.

Jane could see a male spirit in several areas, as he seemed to be moving around. She could see the man standing in the distance.

He looked very much like the man in the picture by the tree by the house and he had the same energy feel and the same impression. When Jane looked at the picture, she got very bad chills , which to her indicates that something is there. The figure is too defined not to be a ghost according to Jane. She feels that the man may be in his 50's. He has a strong F in his name like Frank or Franklin.

He may not be buried at the cemetery, but someone else, such as his wife may be, that he was visiting. Jane feels that he passed away due to heart issues.

Jane also picked up a very pretty younger female spirit wearing a cream colored dress with lace on it ,who was maybe in her 30's . Her clothing looked dated.

In addition Jane picked up a young boy, maybe between 8-12 years old, who was dressed in black funeral clothing, that also looked dated. His name had a strong J in it like Joe , Joseph or Jonathan.

He felt ill to Jane, as his face was pale when he passed away. He died most likely of an illness, that had to do with lungs.

I was able to get distant male voices on the voice recorder in several areas of the cemetery.

There are reports of child spirits playing in the cemetery as well as some of the houses having paranormal activity, which isn't uncommon, when the house is built over graves.

Some clean up efforts have been made over the years, but as many old cemeteries, there is still much that need to be done.

There is no designated parking at this cemetery, so one has to park on the side of the road.

If you are planning on visiting the Comet Lodge Cemetery, please leave it as you found it and show respect to those ,who still remain there, as this cemetery has gone through enough neglect, destruction and disrespect.
